Qasr Al-Farid

Unique for its uniqueness from the rest of the carved palaces in the surrounding mountains, Qasr Al-Farid is sculpted in an independent rock block that rivals the majesty of any carved architecture in the world

Madain Saleh, Saudi Arabia

Among the ruins located in Mada’in Saleh, this castle literally stands alone. Carved into a massive boulder, Qasr al-Farid, or “The Lonely Castle,” is a stunning ancient structure that rivals the majesty of any carved architecture in the world.

It is one of the largest existing tombs and its name represents its uniqueness as one rock independent of the rest of the palaces or tombs.

The tomb is unique because it was not completed and was not used as a tomb as there are no traces of burial sites inside it.

It is also distinguished from the rest of the tombs with an increase in the columns carved on the facade.

Most graves have two columns, but Al-Farid has four with Nabataean crowns on the front.

Created around the 1st century CE, the tall facade was never actually finished. The description of the site as a “castle” is misleading, as the grand carving is actually a tomb that was built as part of the ancient Nabatean site of Hegra.

This may be seen as a strike against the site in terms of its beauty or its archeological importance, but the tapering finish on the facade has actually turned out to be a boon.

Perhaps the most amazing tomb in the world. It features in the opening of the fifth element.

The inside is only about 15 feet by 12 feet which is very weird when you get inside. The outside is amazing carved and incredible to behold.

You could sit there and stare for hours. It is just like a large meteor landed and they carved it up.

The palace distinguish the rocky facades, it has a very large interface, contain inscriptions, carved with high accuracy, a different interface, distinct from 153 interface rocky other cities in favor of their host, called an old stone city.
