Nymphaeum

The fountain that once gave life to it busy city centre, little remains of Nymphaeum and is marked by a 450 year old Pistacchio tree

The Nymphaeum was a grand public fountain along Petra’s Colonnaded Street.

Virtually nothing remains of the ancient superstructure, and even the retaining wall is modern.

It is marked by a 450 year old Pistacchio tree now and is still well worth a stop as you walk down the colonnaded street towards the Temenos Gate.

It is located on the colonnade street that was once the main thoroughfare in Petra.
