Al-Ghars Well

Located 1,500 meters northeast of Masjid Quba, Al-Ghars Well is one of the landmarks of Madinah sharif that has been linked to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Al-Ghars well was a place from which the Prophet ﷺ drank and made a request that he ﷺ be bathed with its water after his passing away.

Ghars is one of the wells which was preferred by prophet Muhammad ﷺ, for its freshness and from which water was usually brought to him.

Sunan Ibn Majah quoted Hz. Ali ibn Abu Talib رضي الله عنه as saying, the Prophet ﷺ said: “When I die, wash me with seven water-skins from Al-Ghars Well. He ﷺ also used to drink from this well.”

It is said that it’s water was sweeter than honey because the Prophet ﷺ took this well water in his mouth and spat the same water in the well. It was one of many miracles of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding wells.

Architecture

Apparently though now dried up it was still in use till mid-nineteenth century CE.

The Bir Ghars, is now defunctional and not in use any more. Some debris can be seen at the dried up bottom of the Ghars well.

The current well is enclosed within a circular wall and access inside is not permitted.
