Meribah, also spelled is one of the locations which the jewish texts identifies as having been travelled through by Bani Israel.

It is also known as Kadesh-barnea, in the South-West of the Dead Sea at the top corner of the Sinai peninsula. There is an enormous five-story high rock, with a thin split down the middle, which some believe to be the rock related to Hz. Musa عليه اسلام and Bani Israel.

Quarreling of Jews

The account told by christian texts tells that Bani Israel quarreled with Hz. Musa عليه اسلام and Hz. Harun عليه اسلام about the lack of water and food crops.

They responded by praying to Allah, while prostrating themselves. Than Allah told them to take the staff, and speak to a particular rock while the people are gathered together in view of it.

Hz. Musa عليه اسلام following the instructions gathered the assembly together before the rock.
He said to them, “Listen, you rebels, shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Hz. Musa عليه اسلام lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff.

Water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their livestock drank.

One point to note is that the miracle related to water done by Hz. Musa عليه اسلام happened more that once.

In suex (Egypt) it is said that Hz. Musa عليه اسلام throw a tree branch, possibly a barberry into the bitter springs to make them sweet enough to drink.

In another site closer to Meribah split rock, there are reportedly a dozen wells at this location, as well as a collection of palm trees, where Hz. Musa عليه اسلام striked the ground with his stick and water gushed forthm dividing the water springs into 12 tribes equally.
