The Templars Tunnel

Extraordinary underground passageway built by crusaders to connect their main fortress at old Akko’s southwestern tip with the port

Following the conquest of Jerusalem by Hz. Salahuddin Ayyubi رحمة الله عليه in 1187, the Templars made their home in Acre and began to build their quarter in the City’s southwest section.

The Templer tunnel is 150 meters long and it extends from the Templars fortress in the west to the city’s port in the east.

The tunnel was discovered in 1994.

Know This

Need to stoop over so you’re tall take notice. The tickets allow a visit to the old hammam too. Also, don’t miss the waterfront and the market.

All in all the walk through the tunnels only took 15 minutes.
