Urn Tomb is a huge structure with its architecture emphasized very unusual multi-colored rock/stone texture.
The Urn Tomb is located high above the Outer Siq in Petra on the left as you walk away from the Treasury towards the colonnaded street. it is part of a wider tomb complex carved into the rock and is well worth your time.
Also called by the bedouin al-Mahkamah, this is first of the Royal Tombs constructed around 70 AD fronted by an impressive and deep courtyard that affords spectacular views over Petra.
The tomb is named for the large jar that crowns the monument’s top.
You’ll need to climb up a few flights of stairs to view the interior.
Three apses were carved in the Byzantine period (about 447 AD) when the tomb was converted into a Byzantine church.
The colored rock of the ceiling is incredible and worth the climb.
