Hz. Isa’s عليه اسلام triumphal entry into Jerusalem takes place (acc to christian sources) in the days before the Last Supper, and his ascension to heaven.
Christians celebrate Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, which begins a week of celebrations known as Holy Week ending with Easter Sunday.
In one of the Gospels, crowds gather around Hz. Isa عليه اسلام and believe in him after he raised el-Azar (Lazarus) from the dead, and the next day the multitudes that had gathered for the feast in Jerusalem welcome Hz. Isa عليه اسلام as he enters the city.
In another acount, Hz. Isa عليه اسلام descends from the Mount of Olives towards Jerusalem, and the crowds lay their clothes on the ground to welcome him as he triumphantly enters Jerusalem.
The village of Bethphage is remembered as the starting point of Hz. Isa’s عليه اسلام triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
The remains of the incident is kept in a Franciscan church built beside the steep road that descends from the Mount of Olives eastwards towards the village of El-Azariyeh (Bethany)
Story
Christians accouts tells that Hz. Isa عليه اسلام sent two of his disciples to find a donkey.
Than he rode into Jerusalem while crowds spread their cloaks and branches on the road, shouting praised to him.
It was on his way to Jerusalem that Hz. Isa عليه اسلام stopped on the summit of the Mount of Olives, overlooking the panorama of the Temple, towers and palaces, and wept over the city as he prophesied it’s destruction only 40 years in the future.
Bethphage
Bethphage is a Christian religious site in Palestine.
It is mentioned as the place in ancient Palestine from which Hz. Isa عليه اسلام sent his disciples to find a colt upon which he would ride into Jerusalem.
The Synoptic Gospels mention it as being close to Bethany.
Bethphage is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the modern village of al-Eizariya.
Location
The exact location of the village, on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives and close to Bethany, is uncertain.
It is said that it was likely on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho and the limit of a Sabbath-day’s journey from Jerusalem, that is, 2000 cubits. There is the Franciscan Church of Bethphage at a likely location.
Church of Bethphage
The Church of Bethphage, also spelled Beitphage, meaning “house of the early figs”, is a Franciscan church located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
It contains a stone traditionally identified as the one which Hz. Isa عليه اسلام used to mount the donkey at the start of his procession into Jerusalem.
