Many of his miracles are also said to have occurred here including his walking on water, calming the storm, the disciples and the miraculous catch of fish, and his feeding five thousand people (in Tabgha).

Miraculous catch of fish

The Miraculous catch of fish, is either of two miracles attributed to Hz. Isa عليه اسلام. The miracles are reported as taking place years apart from each other, but in both miracles disciples were fishing unsuccessfully in the Sea of Galilee when Hz. Isa عليه اسلام tells them to try one more cast of the net, at which they are rewarded with a great catch.

The first miraculous catch of fish takes place early in the mission of Hz. Isa عليه اسلام and results in Hz. Sam’un رضي الله عنه (Saint Peter) as well as Saint James and Saint John joining Hz. Isa عليه اسلام vocationally as disciples.

The second miraculous catch of fish is also called the “miraculous catch of 153 fish,” and seems to recall the first catch.

According to the christian texts, on the day of this miracle, Hz. Isa عليه اسلام was preaching near Sea of Galilee, when he saw two boats at the water’s edge.

Boarding the one belonging to Hz. Sam’un رضي الله عنه (Saint Peter), and moving out a little from shore, he sat and taught the people from the boat.

Afterwards, he said to Hz. Sam’un رضي الله عنه: Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.

Hz. Isa عليه اسلام walking on water

Hz. Isa عليه اسلام walking on the water is depicted as one of his miracles recounted in the biblical text.

This story, following the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, tells how Hz. Isa عليه اسلام sent the disciples by ship back to the “other side” of the Sea of Galilee (the western side) while he remained behind, alone, to pray.

Night fell and the sea arose as the ship became caught in a wind storm. After rowing against the wind for most of the night, the disciples saw Hz. Isa عليه اسلام walking on the water. They were frightened, thinking that they were seeing a spirit, but when Hz. Isa عليه اسلام told them not to be afraid, they were reassured.

After he calmed the storm, he was on the ship. The wind ceased and they arrived at land.

Feeding of Multitude of 5000 people near Sea of Galilee

The Feeding of the 5,000 is also known as the “miracle of the five loaves and two fish”.

Christian tradition reports that Hz. Isa عليه اسلام used five loaves and two fish supplied by a boy to feed a multitude of 5000 people with the grace of Allah.
